The application of silica sol in the paper industry

The treatment with a mixture of silica sol and photosensitive liquid can make the surface of the photosensitive paper smooth, the images sharp, and expand the exposure range. When silica sol is applied to the pre-coating of blueprint paper, copy paper and offset printing paper, it can render the paper surface smooth, with clear image formation and good contrast.

After the surfaces of kraft paper and corrugated paper are treated with silica sol, the anti-slip property of the paper products can be enhanced, reducing slipping during transportation and storage, and improving the moisture resistance and strength of the paper products. In the manufacturing of carbonless copy paper, replacing the clay, talcum powder and calcium carbonate powder coatings with silica sol can make the color of the paper products more vivid.

When the punched cards used in electronic computers are coated with silica sol, the stability, anti-slip property and printability of the paper products can be improved. Cellophane and plastic films tend to get sticky in summer. This problem can be satisfactorily solved if they are treated with a mixture of silica sol and glycerol monostearate. 

When manufacturing artificial fibers and cellophane, using silica sol as a binder can prevent the adhesion and entanglement between films.
